Catherine Row was born in 1961 the daughter of Mavis Freer and Christopher Row.
Catherine studied at Camberwell College of Art and subsequently wild life illustration at Dyfed College of Art.
After art school Catherine gained experience in 3 dimensional form by working as a model maker for a display company in Weymouth making Christmas Grottos, animated figures of the Flintstones for Lakeside shopping arcade, a giant totem pole for Milton Keynes shopping arcade, and animated figures for museums; a figure of Einstein for Jodrall Bank Museum, and Michael Faraday for the Electricity Board. Catherine has also made figures for Wedgewood.
While working as a model maker Catherine began sculpting her own work in erect and bronze.
Her current work includes hand built porcelain forms inspired by breaking waves, human figures cast in ciment fondue, and painted with gesso, influenced by 16th century Chinese Buddhist sculpture.
A further project is for simplified horse and bird figures in collaboration with Tim Nicholson.
