Leo Myers

Leo Myers was born in 1881, of a brilliant father (FWH Myers) and a beautiful and doting mother (Eveleen Tennant) who was prompted to take up the new art of photography so that she could record his angelic appearance as a child.

He was sent to Eton where he distinguished himself in running and German - but nothing else.  After Eton he went up to Cambridge but he wasn’t long at Trinity College when his mother whisked him off to America.  She was told she could have a posthumous meeting with her recently dead husband FWH Myers by having a consultation with a famous American medium.

The meeting didn’t materialise but by chance Leo met an American heiress (Elsie Palmer) in Colorado Springs and wanted to wed her.  He had to wait a bit but in January 1908 he got his way and married.

Leo had everything; looks, a beautiful wife, money, and talent; he novels soon brought him critical acclaim and his wife gave him 2 daughters (EQ and Eve) a magnificent ginger cat (after whom his grandson was named).

I, his grandson, have only one memory of him – it was during the Second World War and he was standing silently on a landing, wearing a dressing gown and an amused expression.  In 1944 he committed suicide - as he had lost the will to live.
